On 26 June, we hosted one of our most high energy events yet – a Dear Community quiz night in partnership with Hacktics, the finance focused board game that makes learning about money genuinely fun. Held in Auckland, this women’s quiz night was all about connection, confidence and bringing financial literacy to life in a way that felt playful, practical and inclusive.
From the soundtrack to the spot prizes, every detail was designed to help women learn something new, feel supported, and have a seriously good time.
The Themes: Nostalgia and Throwbacks All Night
Let’s talk about the quiz themes. We brought the good times back with rounds on:
-
TV shows and movies
-
Disney favourites
-
Kiwi throwbacks
-
General knowledge
-
And of course… plenty of nostalgia
Tables filled quickly, the competition kicked off, and Hannah – our brilliant host and DJ for the night – kept the room buzzing with old school hits and interactive trivia. There were sing alongs, shout outs and more than a few bonus rounds. The energy was loud, fun and full of classic Dear Community chaos.
A Catered Quiz Night? Yes Please.
No community night is complete without food. Guests enjoyed a delicious spread provided by The Cater Station, adding even more warmth and joy to an already welcoming environment. The shared food experience gave everyone a moment to settle in, connect with their tables, and gear up for a night of learning and laughter.
Finance Made Friendly
In true Dear Community style, we paused the games for a moment of purpose. Hannah led a panel with Debbie, the founder of Hacktics, who shared her own journey with finance and the story behind the board game.
The Hacktics game itself is designed to reflect real life. Players choose one of eight career paths and make decisions about income, savings, investment and navigating unexpected events – all while managing their personal goals.
Debbie shared practical lessons like:
-
How to manage your money with confidence
-
Why financial literacy is key to independence
-
How small financial decisions shape long term outcomes
-
And how learning through play can break down barriers
The conversation was approachable, engaging and full of lightbulb moments – especially for women who want to understand their finances but are not sure where to start.
Winners, Spot Prizes and Plenty of Cheers
Of course, we could not finish the night without some very exciting winners.
First place took home:
-
A Taylor Sport matching tracksuit
-
A Hacktics board game
Second place scored:
-
Hydro Flask tumblers
-
The Beauty Chef collagen products
Third place received:
-
Ada Studio takeaway cups
-
Sea Moss Collective supplements
We also had a huge range of spot prizes – from wellness treats to beauty favourites and lifestyle goodies. There was something for everyone, and no one went home empty handed.
